Kavuşma günü / The day of reunion

En sonunda Arıba’mıza kavuşacağımız gün geldi! Sabah 8’de karantina incelemesinin yapılacağı Perkins Nakliyat’ın deposunun yolunu tuttuk. Karantina memuru da gelince doğruca arabamızın durduğu deponun yolunu tuttuk. Tüm eşyalarımızı koyduğumuz kutu çoktan incelendiği için doğruca arabaya yöneldik. Arabanın her yerinde “Dokunmayın”, “Kırılgan” gibi uyarılar bulunduğundan karantina memurları da çekinmiş dokunmaya Bizim gelmemizi beklemişler. Karantina memuru aracın her noktasını, toz, toprak, böcek vs. gibi Avustralya’ya girmesi yasaklı nesnelere karşı inceleyip tam bize rahat bir nefes aldırırken arka tekerleği göstererek diğer görevli ile bir şeyler konuşmaya başladı. Biz bir sorun çıktı endişesiyle beklerken sorunun ne olduğu anlaşıldı. Arka tekerlekte bir miktar toprak kalmış Elektrik süpürgesiyle çekerek bu sorunu da hallettik ve eşyalarımızı yükleyip doğruca çoktan gitmiş olmamız gereken Hidden Valley’in yolunu tuttuk.

Hidden Valley oldukça kalabalık görünüyordu. Pek takım gelmişti bile. Aurora, Umicore, MIT ve iki arabasıyla birlikte Bochum en dikkat çekenlerdi. Bochum’un yeni arabası yarıştaki en sıradışı tasarımlardan birine sahip. Bugün acele içerisinde bir gün geçirdiğimizden pistten kareler çekemedik ama onları da en kısa sürede size ulaştırmaya çalışırız.  Gözlerimiz ise tabiki Nuna’yı aradı ama malesef şimdilik sadece 2 ekip üyeleri pist alanında geziniyorlardı. Ama onları da bir iki gün içerisinde göreceğimizden eminim.

Günün geri kalanını ise aracımızdaki eksikleri tamamlamaya çalışarak geçirdik. Her ne kadar çalışmaya başlamamız öğlen üçü bulsa da akşam yemeği için pistten ayrılana kadar büyük ilerleme kaydettik. Pistten doğruca yeni favorimiz İstanbul Cafe’ye, güzel bir ziyafete gittik. Yarın içni enerjimizi iyi toplamalı ve tüm ekip olarak dur durak bilmeden çalışmamız gerekiyor sanırım çünkü bu araba yarın ya bitecek ya bitecek

Finally! The day has come to reunite with our Arıba! We went on our way at 8 to Perkins Transportations’ depot where the quarantine inspection was going to take place. The box that contains all our stuff was already inspected so we went for the car. The inspection officers hesitated to touch the car since it beared many “please dont touch” and “fragile” tags. They waited for us to show up. The quarantine officer executed his extensive search for any illegal content like dust, earth, insects etc… and was about to relieve us with good news when he started a stern little dialogue showing the rear wheel with his partner. Anxiety faded away when we realised that the problem was a piece of earth that sticked to the rear wheel. Was nothing a dustbuster couldn’t help and after we settled that problem, we loaded our stuff and head to Hidden Valley where we were supposed to be long ago.

Hidden Valley looked crowded. Many of the teams had already turned up. Aurora, Umicore, MIT and with their two cars Bochum were the most attention grabbing of all. Bochums’ most recent car has the most extraordinary design of all. Today went by all with turmoils and outrageous speed. So we don’t have many photos of the track but we will try to let you reach some photos as well. We all looked for Nuna yet it was nowhere to be seen except for 2 team members that were hanging around. But I am sure we will be seeing them in a matter of a few days.

Trying to add missing stuff on the car took our rest of the day. Although it was almost 3 afternoon when we started working we made great progress until we let for dinner. We head for our new favourite Istanbul Cafe, for a great feast. We must gather some energy for tomorrow and work relentlessly since this car will be complete tomorrow or else!
